About Us
HISTORY OF EVERYBODY RIDES
The Past
Everybody Rides began in 1984 at a small farm in Sodus, NY with an all volunteer staff. In 1987, the program was housed at the Newark Developmental Center’s Spring Farm. Hundreds of riders with developmental disability experienced the benefits of participating in therapeutic riding at Everybody Rides. Unfortunately, due to state budget woes, the program was closed in 2009.
The Present
Everybody Rides, Inc, is a non-profit 501c3 organization that operates, promotes, and supports therapeutic riding and other equine assisted activities and therapies for persons with disability. The organization, with its collaborative partner Wayne ARC is offering programs as a center affiliated with the North American Riding for the Handicapped (NARHA). Therapy horses and certified instructors are teaching riders at credentialed community stables.
The Future
Everybody Rides hopes to expand its location of activity sites and availability of instructors so that more participants can be served in therapeutic riding and other programs such as hippotherapy (physical, occupational, and speech therapy using a horse); equine facilitated mental health, and equine assisted learning.
